We all love watching films.Film industry plays a vital role in changing perception of people. The drama and the roles effects us a lot from any other source of information. We are in 21st century but still some people are very conservative about the society.People should be more and more accepting towards every third gender, homosexual people and everyone belonging to the LGBTQ+ community. Love has no boundaries and everyone is allowed to love the person they love and be with them.
So here are some films on LGBTQ+ community and the problems they face about it which will make you think about your perception and opinion towards the queer people in our society. So there are 8 movies I wanna share in this blog.
1.Evening shadows: This film is about kartik,a mumbai based photographer originally from south india. So kartik who shares a very special bond with his mother and is slightly intimidated by his father comes back to home after a long period of 4years. His father who is a very strict character keeps pressuring him for marriage and settling down but kartik is in love with his boyfriend Aman.He opens up to his mother who passed a difficult time to accept the fact that her son is gay but slowly she starts to accept the fact. But oneday his father comes to know about his truth and beats him up. Atlast his mother is seen to defend him infront of his father which is a really emotional scene. This film talks about the bond between a mother and a child, the love a mother has doesn't decrease for her child in anyway. The tension or the dilemma in his mother between him and her husband and ultimately choosing the right way is the best thing that is shown in this film.
2.Chitrangada: Rudra and Partho falls in love with eachother and desires to adopt a child. But child adoption is not allowed in same sex couple. Therefore Rudra decides to go through this sex transplantation operation. You have to watch the rest to feel it from within. This film is beautifully portrayed and the roles are amazingly performed.
3.Margarita with a straw: Living a paralysed life Laila,a girl suffering from cerebral palsy falls in love with a blind girl Khanum after she goes to Newyork university for studies. Now Laila is in love with Khanum, the way she lives her life and the way she made her feel about herself but she makes a mistake! Laila's mother calls both of them to India and Laila reveals her sexuality to her mother which she completely disapproves. Also her mother Shubhangini hides a secret from Laila.Atlast everything starts falling apart because of Laila's mistake and her mother's secret.
But at the ending of the film Laila is seen to accept herself and love herself which is a important lesson for everyone as accepting yourself and going towards the journey of selflove is the ultimate happiness.
This film talks about relationships, cheating, mother's love towards a child and a lot more. This film is a must watch for everyone!
4.Shubh mangal zyada saavdhan: If you are up for a romantic-comedy film with a great message then you must watch this film.Gay couple Aman and Karthik are seen having trouble to convice the parents of Aman and they face a lot of hardships together. The character of Karthik is shown very humourous and catchy. In the end the couple is seen together with their parents being partially okay with the fact. Make some popcorns and watch this film as soon as possible.
5.Nagar kirtan: This is a bengali film in which Puti ,a transwoman from rural bengal runs away from family and joins a squad of eunuchs and sings at traffic signals to earn money. Then she falls in love with Madhu,a chineese food delivery boy. They decide to live together but the transphobic society doesn't support it and shows their cruelty to the couple. At last puti takes her own life and Madhu is seen to join the eunuch society. This film shows how much cruel a society is. Also it beautifully potraits the love of Puti and Madhu. The ending is very emmotional. So keep a box of tissue by your side whenever you watch it.
6.Aligarh: This film is based on true facts. A marathi proffesor Ramchandra Siras. The film starts when a guy from film crew forcibly enters his house and videotapes him having sex with his friend who is a rickshaw driver. They start beating him and the next day the news is spread all over the place and siraj get suspension from the University. However a journalist sympathises with him and brings up his topic to serve him justice and helps in taking the case upto court. Justice is being served and suspension is revoked but Siraj is found dead on his house the night before joining the university. This story shows the real face of the homophobic society and being a queer person is not easy to live. Even educated people are totally against the topic and the questions he faces in the court of law are just heart breaking.
7.Memories in march: Arati Mishra gets a shocking news one day when she heards that her son is dead in a road traffic accident in kolkata. She travels to Kolkata and finds about the secret Life her son was living . She feels sad and blames the partner of her son but later she realises the love for him. This film talks about how a queer person has to hide his sexual orientation because they are afraid of the world and the journey is very emotional.
8.Ek ladki ko dekha toh aisa laga: This is a romantic story in which Sweety chaudhari,a lesbian girl faces difficulties in coming out infront of the society and her orthodox traditional family. The ending is heartwarming and very emotional.
Besides these films there are other films like Super deluxe ,kapoor and sons,Bombay talkies etc but these are the films which are entirely based on LGBTQ+ community.
On September 6,2018 the supreme court of India ordered that the application of section 377 of IPC is unconstitutional and irrational in India. This decision of Supreme court gave hope to a lot of people who belonged to the LGBTQ+ community. There are people who accepted the fact related to it but there are a lot of people who still beleive that homosexuality is a crime or a disease. People are still afraid to come out or reveal their sexuality as they are concerned about the society. Transgenders are still not respected as the way they should be.I am not generalising but a vast population are still homophobes and transphobes. It's high time for people to normalise and accept the way everyone is. Love never remained in boundaries and never will. After all who are we to decide who should be loved and how and how much?
